2008 Rules and Regulations

 1.    All Minnesota State fishing and boating regulations apply.  Any fish presented that is in violation of state laws must be immediately released, and the team will forfeit that night's points.  (e.g.. if you have 3 walleyes over 24" and the law only permits 2 fish over 24", or if you try to present a 14" walleye on the St.Louis River which has a 15" minimum)

2.    Ten (10) team league limit for 2008.

3.    Fishing time:  5:45pm - 9:00pm  (no penalty for starting late)  All teams must be at landing by 9:00pm or else forfeit that nights points.  (Early boats must stay within 50 yards of landing before 5:45pm and no fishing!)

4.    Two person per team: subs are allowed.  One of the original team members must be present.

5.    Ten (10) point penalty may be enforced if intentional deception is perceived, for each presented fish that comes up "short" at measuring. If you have one that is "very close" (ie.within 1/8 of an inch, pinch tail, open mouth, etc.) and measuring boat does not agree, the closest available team may be called in as a third party to measure the fish, and their decision will be final.

6.    Live wells may be checked at the request of any league member before the start of fishing.

7.    No double teaming/pooling/sharing/giving away to another team/etc. of fish.

8.    Fishing during lightning is prohibited.  All must congregate by the landing, within shouting distance, and wait to see if storm blows over.

9.    Immediate release of any qualifying fish allowed with measurement / verification by an opposing team.

10.  Fish are measured in inches, tail may be pinched, mouth may be open or closed.

11.  Weather:  Only lightning or severe wind can cancel fishing.  Check with league officers.  Cancellations will be made up at a future date(likely the next open Thursday on our schedule).

12.    If 1/3 of the teams show up, a decision can be made by 6:30pm.

13.    One hour of fishing = full night.  No refish/makeup.

14.    Old rule:Fish will be measured by the previous weeks winning team.  (President to measure on week #1)

New Rule starting 2005: 2 boats will measure (previous weeks 1st & 2nd place team), within 50 to 100 yards of landing. (Pres. & Pres.Elect on week #1)

15.    Measuring boats must stay on the water to measure other teams fish.  Try to be at the landing by 8:50pm.  First team to show up for measuring will measure the measuring boats catch. (Try to say that real fast 3 times!)

16.    All weeds and exotics must be removed from boats, motors, and trailers before leaving the landing.

17.    Sixty Six percent vote (2/3) of current membership required to change a rule, or make a league decision.

18.    No pre-fishing on the scheduled lake on the day of league fishing.

19.    2005 fees will be $50 per person ($100 per team)  Deadline-April 15th, 2005.  No points will count until both team members pay!

20.    Subs will be charged $5 a night to participate.  This money will go into our 'party fund' for the end of the year. (Rule change for 2001: subs under 16 years old can fish for free.)

21.    While not required, the use of live wells (with working aerators!) and rubber landing nets is strongly encouraged.

22.    All league disputes will go through the officers.  The officers will decide if an issue requires a league vote.

23.    2008 - officers are:  President: Mike Wicklund  President Elect: Doug Magdzas.

 Founder/Web-Master/Secretary:  Rich Mullvain.

24.    Any team violating league rules, or state laws, will face expulsion from the league.

25.    Any team that is aware of any violations of league rules, or state laws, is obligated to report this to one of the league officers immediately, or else face expulsion from the league.

26.    Scoring/Prizes as follows:

Team scores are cumulative over the 10 week schedule.
                   Prizes
                                        1st Place team  -  $250
                                        2nd Place team -  $150
                                        3rd Place team  -  $75
                                        4th Place team   -  $50
                                        5th Place team   -  $25
                                        Biggest Walleye - $25
                                        Biggest Northern - $25

(In the event of a tie at the end of the year, both teams will split the average between the place shared, and one place below.  ie. if two teams share 4th place at the end, they would split $50 + $25 = $75 (divided by 2) = $37.50 for each team.

Highest weekly total will get to choose a prize of a $30 gift certificate from Fisherman's Corner - Pike Lake, or from the Minnowette - Friedenberg.

2nd highest weekly score will  get the remaining  $30 gift certificate.

(we give each place $200, and get 10 certificates valued at $30 from each)

Please patronize Fisherman's Corner and the Minno-ette whenever possible, and remember to thank them for helping sponsor our league!

In the event of a tie, the longest fish between the tied teams will decide the weekly winner.
(in the event of two big fish of identical length, second biggest fish will decide, etc.)

Math:  $1000 fees + $100 from Fisherman's Corner + $100 from Minno-ette = $1200 budget.
           $600 in weekly prizes ($300 Fisher.Corner & $300 Minno-ette)
$600 in end of season prizes (includinge largest walleye & northern).
           $0 remains for league expenses/trophies(for 1st 3 teams)/etc./ and for party fund.
**** the $5 weekly fee from subs will go into party fund ******

27.    Keep it FUN!!!!  Always practice good sportsmanship, and help each other out when they need it!!

28.    As a member of the Duluth Area Thursday Night Fishing League, or as a substitute participating along side with a member, it is understood that each individual is responsible for their own actions, and that the rest of the league and it’s members cannot be held responsible for the actions or liability incurred by an individual.  In short, we are not a corporation, and will not share the responsibility or the consequences of an irresponsible individual.

29.    Rule Change: Based on vote after week #2(1999):  You may now keep the legal Minnesota limit of fish to take home with you, but may still only submit the league limit for scoring.  Please have fish that you are not submitting for measuring separated from the catch that you will present to the scorer.  (i.e. you may keep up to 12 walleyes per boat, all under 14 inches, but none would qualify for league points.)  Remember that we want the scoring to go as quickly and easily as possible.  Don't make the scorer wait while you are sorting through your fish.

30.You may keep species that are not listed in our rules.
(yes you can keep bullheads and carp if you want to, but be prepared for serious heckling.)

31. New Rule starting 2005: All boats must fill out a score-card, and turn in to one of the measuring boats by 9pm.  Even if you get zero points, you still must check in and turn in a score-card by 9pm.  This is not only an accounting issue, but a safety issue as well!

32. New Rules adopted 2008:

   1. 4 fish limit for all species, except only 2 for muskie. 2.  Added 6 species bonus = 60 points.  3.  any legal muskie worth 50 points (based on whatever current Minnesota law states.) 4. Cameras can be used all season, to verify BONUS fish only, that are released on the water.
